The Department of Political Science was established in 1987 with the initiation of PG centre affiliated to Osmania University at Mahabubnagar. It is one of the leading departments in Palamuru University with its distinguished faculty and contribution to Academics. The department has six major specializations- Political theory, Public Policy, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Indian Political Process and Human Rights. The department offers M.A programme which consists of 20 courses- 12 core courses and 8 optional courses spread over 4 semesters. In formulating the entire programme, the department is guided by the consideration that all the Post-Graduate level students should be familiar with all the sub- disciplines, trends, approaches and Paradigms of the discipline.
The courses are aimed at acquainting students with the latest political, theoretical trends and making the programme contemporaneous, relevant and useful. The optional courses offered with the M.A programme were not only supplement the compulsory courses in the areas but also offer students opportunities to study various areas like Feminism, Post-Modernism etc. The distinguished faculty of the department have published articles in various reputed journals of both National and International and have participated in various Seminars/Symposiums.
The Department has been successfully arranging the remedial English classes for promoting communication and soft skills for the benefit of the students to make them feel confident about the language of English as a medium of instruction. The department also made arrangements for basic Computer knowledge to the students who generally hail from the rural areas with which they explore more information about the discipline. The Faculty of the department are members of various Professional Bodies such as Indian Political Science Association and Indian Distance Education Association etc. They are also engaging in extension activities like Programme officers -NSS and Director, Palamuru study circle. Some students of the department have excelled in academics by pursing their higher studies in reputed institutions and teaching. Few of them have qualified UGC-NET and Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships-RGNF.
