HOD
Department of Microbiology
University Post Graduate College

Welcome to the Department of Microbiology

Department of Microbiology was established at the inception of the University in 2008. The Department has a vibrant community of faculty, researchers, and students. We offer post-graduate and Doctoral programs in Microbiology. The Doctoral program in the Department began in 2017. Research within the Department is focused on broad areas of Agricultural, Environmental, and Industrial Microbiology, more particularly confined to microbial biodiversity, metagenomics, biofertilizers and biopesticides, biofuel production, biodegradation, bioremediation and production of industrially important microbial enzymes, etc. The faculty, post-doctoral fellows, research scholars, staff, and students of the Department make an outstanding contribution to research in Microbiology. The faculty publish their research in leading journals and present their work at national and international conferences. The Department has built up an academic reputation of excellence in teaching and research. The Department has well-equipped laboratories for conducting practicals and carrying out research. The students are well-trained to be absorbed in various pioneering research laboratories in microbiology, biotechnology, diagnostic centers, and food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural industries. The CBCS syllabus for the M.Sc. course covers a total of 16 papers in various sub-disciplines of Microbiology.

Vision

The Department of Microbiology aims to provide excellent education and prepare future scientists and professionals to solve global challenges through innovative research and the practical use of microbiology.

Mission

  • Provide high-quality education and research opportunities in microbiology.
  • Promote sustainable solutions to global challenges.
