Department Profile

The Department of Physics was established in the academic year 2014-15. It is offering M.Sc. Physics course with solid state Physics as the specialisation. The total intake of students is 30. Until now, two batches (2014-16 and 2015-17) have graduated successfully and majority of them are working in teaching field in reputed corporate colleges, (Narayana and Sri Chaitanya) and Govt. schools. The department has attracted highly qualified teachers who have been continuing their research in UK, Canada, and Taiwan, OU, etc. At present the department has 1 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professors and 5 Academic Consultants. Under the able guidance of Prof. M. Nagabhushanam, head of the department and special officer examinations Physics department has is developed both in terms of teaching and laboratory infrastructure and further fine tuning is in process. Teachers are involving actively in their research fields. Their research interests span over wide areas ranging from Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science, magnetic materials, Quantum Optics, semiconductor nanostructures, etc.

For mastering theoretical concepts student learn in the class rooms, the department is well equipped with brand-new, modern and latest laboratory equipment in various branches of physics such as Optics, Modern Physics Solid State Physics, Electronics and Nuclear Physics etc.

The Physics department is organising several co-curricular activities. Eminent researchers/scientists are invited to deliver special lectures to motivate the young minds into the exciting field of physics and to give an over view of the developments and opportunities in science and technology across the globe, in general, and India in particular. As part of the National Science day, to mark the occasion of Sir C. V. Raman's discovery "The Raman Effect", department is organising science fairs/exhibitions on 28th of February every year. This year, Prof. Sadananda Chary, Dept. Of Physics, Osmania University, Hyderabad was invited as the chief guest. He delivered an exciting and motivational lecture on Raman and his discovery, "The Raman Effect". He also evaluated the student's performance in the science exhibition and awarded prizes for the top three participants. Faculty of the Physics department encourages students to participate in these events by presenting posters, models and seminars etc. Further, to enhance all round development of the students department is organising personality development classes. This year Dr. V. Srinatha Chary, Dept. Of English, Palamuru University, a well known personality development trainer and speaker, has conducted a one day programme/session on improving communication and vocabulary skills.

Apart from the main library, department has its own reference library which has rare and high priced popular books which will be very useful for staff as well as students. The department of physics has setup a trend to add number of reference books which covers recent scientific advances in physics. All these developments have become possible with the fullest cooperation and encouragement both in financial and moral support extended by the Vice chancellor Prof. B. Raja Rathnam and the Registrar Prof. I. Panduranga Reddy unconditionally to the department.
